29 December 2024 -New Zealand- South Island -Queenstown
It was a grey and wet day when we woke and it had rained in the night. After breakfast it continued to rain so we read and chilled until it stopped abut midday. It was a good job we thought we had not booked any activities that morning. It was our last day in Queenstown so we went into town for coffee and lunch and walked around parts of the lake.
We had noticed over the last few days quite a lot of unusual cloud cover over Queenstown and we think it is as a result of the lake and the influence of the mountains around it. Some of it looks threatening and apothecial. The picture of the day is looking back toward Queenstown with some thick cloud cover. We had pondered doing some other activities but decided to wander round the shops and have some retail therapy and relax in our last day on South Island.
Queenstown is a fun but busy place and you have to get used to it as many places are quiet and calm and the population is only 5.4 million and very spread out. However, you know what it is about and if its activities you want then it provides them all. My nephew Jamie had told me about Ferg’s Burgers being the best in the world and sold here. Well, the queue was up the street very time we went near and it is a takeaway essentially. They looked great but I was not prepared to wait an hour in the queue and you have nowhere to sit. We did try their pizza and ice cream which was good.
We came back late afternoon for tea and to chill again. The heavens had opened again in town for about an hour and then it began to get warmer. We had an early supper and watched a film.
We move on tomorrow back to Auckland in the North Island and we are flying from Queenstown – a 2 hour flight.
